Stream of Consciousness is a portal into me, into my simultaneity of thought and my exploration between person and landscape.
Starting as a boy, I have been fascinated by Irish author James Joyce and his use of stream of consciousness. His work formed a foundation of my own journey into the internal and important. Joyce’s ability to reflect human thought by stream of consciousness writing has informed my art.
Through my forthcoming feature film A Stab At Heaven with my artistic collaborator Ema McKie, and here within this very personal exhibition, I explore layers of subconscious thought and how my neurobiology and cognitive psychology can inform emotionality in an image through the out of focus areas. I imagine these images as if they are from cinema - odd frames from my mind hung together to exist as their own narrative for fleeting time. I invite viewers to infer one’s own frames and narratives that might exist between the images. Visual contrasts of fire and water, light and shadow, flesh and earth, become skin for a primal frame in silence. These images are a provocation, and a distillation of where I find peace in my own consciousness.
